Slept Well: Makeup for Looking Like You Did

No-makeup makeup is not the same as wearing less. It is wearing selectively: evening out what needs evening, adding light where the face has lost it, and leaving the rest of the skin visible. The products that do this well are thin, flexible and forgiving at close range, and a higher price only earns itself when the texture is better.

We pulled the full ingredient list for every formula here. Seven of the nine came back fragrance free, one does not say either way, and the ninth, the primer, scents itself with citrus and lavender oils it discloses in full rather than hiding behind the word fragrance. Worth knowing if your skin reacts to things and you have never been able to work out which thing.

Still the reference point for loose setting powder, and it earns that on finish: genuinely translucent, no flashback in photographs, and milled fine enough not to settle into texture. It is also talc-first and preserved with methylparaben, both of which plenty of people avoid on principle, and we would rather put that on the page than let you find it on the carton.
