Category Error: Makeup That Behaves Like Skincare

Primer that reads like serum. Sunscreen that behaves like foundation. Lip color built like treatment. These are the products that make the line between makeup and skincare increasingly difficult, and increasingly pointless, to draw. Not every entry here is makeup, and that is the point of the shelf rather than an exception to it.

The test for inclusion was that the skincare had to be structural, not sprinkled. A primer built on hyaluronic acid and niacinamide. A lip balm whose first ingredients are butters. Two tints that are, underneath the shade range, sunscreens, and the reverse case: a dermatology counter SPF that behaves like a tint. The tinted moisturizer that invented the category, and its botanical luxury descendant. A color-correcting serum tint that reads your tone instead of asking. A rose-butter gloss that is half lip care. And the oil-serum hybrid that started the whole conversation.

One thing this edit does not do is promise treatment results from makeup. Each product page says what is in the formula and what the brand claims for it, and keeps the two separate. Where we could not read a full ingredient list, the page says that too.
